Philiberte Pommier, the pionneer

/ 1763 - 1862 /

The exceptional qualities of the Moulin-à-Vent cru have been spotted by Philiberte Pommier, born Patissier. She noticed some single vineyard particularities around the castle and she started to work on the domain's terroirs structuration which was still carrying the name of Château des Thorins. She saw that on a plot next to the castle, the Gamay could reach its best expression full of complexity and greed.
In 1862, Philiberte Pommier aged of 99 year-old saw its action rewarded with her 1854, 1858 and 1858 wines' gold medal for Mâconnais wines at the 1862 Universal Exhibition in London. The recognition of the 1854 vintage, which were 8 year-old, shown another visionary side of Philiberte Pommier: the evolution potential of the Castle's wines through the years.
